I was asked to pick out ten songs. I read down the list and these are the ones that sprang out at the time. Ask me another day and it will be quite different. Note: this section will change at some point, plus samples of other people’s opinions.
- Hallo Mausi – because it’s short, and funny
- King of Charleston – see below
- Good morning Maria
- Parlez-vous Francais
- Pretty Mary
- Senorita
- Cry my beloved country
- The road to Babylon
- When I look out of my window
- When I wake up in the morning
‘Hallo Mausi’ is short and makes me laugh every time I play it.
‘King of Charleston’ has a studio recording which is fun and well put together. There is also an acoustic version which is breath-takingly energetic, with applause at the end from the Italian patients at the hospital I was in.
‘King of Charleston’ is a favourite for several people – see Feedback & Comments section.
‘Good morning Maria’ is poking fun at puritans and has a catchy tune.
Same with ‘Parlez-vous Francais’.
‘Pretty Mary’ and ‘Senorita’ are just nice.
‘Cry my beloved country’ is dramatic and could have great potential for a musical about Nelson Mandela.
‘The road to Babylon’ has a back story which moves forward within the song.
‘When I look out of my window’ has the fireside glow of nostalgia, and good phrasing.
‘When I wake up in the morning’ I just like.
